Laurie lived and painted in a studio apartment on Pine Grove Avenue in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood for several years in the early 1990's. The "Pine Grove" pieces grew out of her time in the city.
Along with her "Heart Series" (see next page) these "Figurative" pieces represent Laurie's more recent work. Her intrigue with matters of the heart and her appreciation of the feminine, including mothering, inspire these works.
